unsettled past, including an abusive childhood, and later on, her

issues with co-dependency and depression. Through the act of

bearing witness to others, Judd finds her own path to

healing. Her recovery becomes integral to her ability to

Judd recorded her experiences both abroad and at home in more than

Ashley Judd recently received a Masters in

Public Administration at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of

Government. She continues to star in a wide range of feature films

and to serve as a global ambassador for PSI/Youth AIDS. For her

work with PSI, Judd received the 2009 USA Today Hollywood

Hero Award. She and her husband, racecar driver Dario Franchitti,

have homes in Tennessee and Scotland.

Collaborator Maryanne Vollers’s first book, Ghosts of

Mississippi, was a finalist for the National Book Award. She’s

also collaborated on two bestselling memoirs: Ice Bound,
