Since the early nineteenth century, when entomologists first popularized the unique biological and behavioral characteristics of insects, technological innovators and theorists have proposed insects as templates for a wide range of technologies. Dr Jussi Parikka is Reader in Media & Design at the Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton). Parikka is also Adjunct Professor in Digital Culture Theory at the University of Turku, Finland.
