Huangpu Village was traditionally called the Phoenix Ford or Phoenix Sandbar. After Song Dynasty, the village became important in overseas trade and seafarers from far and wide began to dwell the area within merely a century. After Qing Dynasty, as Guangzhou designated the only port for international trade, the ancient village became an integral part of the “Overseas Silk Road”.

Time always subsides hustling into silence. No longer heard are the shouts for the hoist of canvas, no longer seen are the glimmering of silk, porcelain and gold. Yet the every stone on the ancient pavement and every tablet in the temples still echo the glory of the past.
