The capacity of atmospheric oxidation continues to increase， and the features of combined air pollution are prominent. Smog will be difficult to effectively control if its formation mechanism cannot be accurately analyzed.　　Thus， in 2012， the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched a Strategic Priority Research Program （Class B） named "Formation Mechanism and Control Strategies　　of Haze in China". The program emphasized the generation， evolution， and control of airborne fine particulate matter （PM2.5）， with key research areas being the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region， the Yangtze River Delta， and the Pearl River Delta. The program aims to clarify the formation mechanism of regional haze， identify key pollutants and pollution sources， research into forecasting and early warning models with independent intellectual property rights， develop technologies to control key haze-causing pollutants through controlled experiments， field observations， and numerical simulations， and provide scientific and technological support for China to formulate control strategies and implementation plans for haze pollution.
